Codonopsis is a twining perennial. It is native to Asia and China, but also cultivated worldwide. The long, sweet root is used extensively in herbal medicine. The Chinese name for codonopsis is tang shen, other common names include bastard ginseng and bonnet bellflower.

Codonopsis is a relatively inexpensive herb that is quite often substituted for Panax ginseng in herbal tonics. It has a similar action as ginseng only not as strong. Blueberries typically grow in northern climates like Maine. Blueberry bushes bear fruit from May through June although the growing altitude and latitude will affect when the bushes will bear fruit.

In today’s venture at looking at each of the 21 super fruits – foods in the Freelife Jule of the Orient Jiaogulan tonic we take a look at cranberries. We normally think of Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners when we think of cranberries. More than just something to serve at Thanksgiving cranberries, are a nutritional powerhouse as we shall see. Pomegranate Fruit one of 21 Super Nutrients in Freelife Jiaogulan Tonic

Well here we are again back looking at each of the 21 super fruits – nutrients in the Freelife Jule of the Orient Jiaogulan tonic. Tonight we feature the Pomegranate fruit. Pomegranates are now used in a number of health products due to studies showing that the fruit contains a high amount of antioxidants that are beneficial to our health in numerous ways. Pomegranates are originally from Asia and the Middle East, the pomegranate fruit is also known as the Chinese apple and by the name Granada. Today the pomegranate fruit is largely grown is India, Africa and the United States. The pomegranate fruit grows best in hot climate areas.

A little American history – Thomas Jefferson planted pomegranates at his home in Monticello in 1771.

Pomegranates are a great source of vitamin C, vitamin B5 (pantothenic acid), and potassium, and pomegranate juice contains antioxidants polyphenols that will help to protect your blood lipids from oxidation.

The most abundant polyphenols in pomegranate juice are the hydrolyzable tannins called punicalagins which have free-radical scavenging properties in laboratory experiments.

The ORAC score or antioxidant capacity of pomegranate juice has been measured at 2,860 units per 100 grams.

Cherry Cherries one of 21 SuperFoods in Freelife Jiaogulan Tonic

As I look at each of the 21 super fruits – nutrients in the Freelife Jule of the Orient Jiaogulan tonic, I’m amazed at the interest in natural fruits and nutrition on various blogs and websites. Here we’re going to take a look at the cherry. The more I looked into the cherry the more I’ve become impressed with its nutritional value. I continue to find what I am discovering about each of the nutrients more and more fascinating. This Jule of the Orient truly is quite an outstanding product.

Tart cherries, (as either dried, frozen, or cherry juice), have among the highest levels of very valuable antioxidants, as compared to other fruits. Cherries derive their much of their antioxidant power from the powerful anthocyanins contained in cherries. These anthocyanins provide the distinctive red color and may hold the key to the cheery’s many health benefits. The rich, red pigments that give cherries their color are a type of phytonutrient known as flavonoids, which have been linked to a variety of health benefits.

Scientific studies have shown that anthocyanins in cherries help the body to respond to inflammation by blocking the actions of cycloxygenase-1 and 2 enzymes.
