Thursday, February 25th, 2010

In this new blog post we look at the Schisandra Berry. The Schisandra Berry comes from a woody vine native to forests of Northern China and the Russian Far East. Its berries have been used for many years in Traditional Chinese Medicine and it is considered one of the most important berries to Chinese herbalists.
The Schisandra Berry is considered a nutritional powerhouse and one of the 21 super fruits – foods – herbs in the Freelife Jule of the Orient Jiaogulan tonic.
Schisandra berry
Its name in Chinese comes from the little known but interesting fact that its berries possess all five basic flavors: salty, sweet, sour, pungent (spicy), and bitter.

The Schisandra Berry is typically used as a tonic and an adaptogen plus it provides healthful benefits to the liver, lungs, blood, and kidneys..

This valuable berry contains Vitamins A, C and E along with compounds called lignans. The large amount of lignans found in schisandra berries are beneficial for liver support as well as for strengthening the immune system. Lignans basically help enzymes in the liver produce antioxidants in large amounts.

Schisandra berries function as an adaptogen similar to ginseng, though not as potent. They help reduce fatigue and increase body energy as well as being beneficial for the digestive system. They also possess anti-inflammatory properties.

Immune System Defending Your Good Health with GoChi Goji Juice

Friday, July 25th, 2008

You can spend thousands of dollars on sophisticated alarm systems to protect your family against burglars, smoke, and carbon monoxide, but are you really safe? You may not have considered some unseen security threats. There are millions of them – bacteria, viruses, allergens, toxins, and parasites – they’re all around you, and they’d love nothing more than to invade your body and destroy your good health!
When your body encounters a potential attacker, it activates an amazing defense mechanism called the immune system. The first job of the immune system is to keep germs out, and it does this by use of barriers to prevent entry into the body. These include your skin, tears, saliva, stomach acid, intestinal flora, and mucous membranes.

Sometimes, invaders are able to get past this first line of defense, and that requires a more aggressive defense. In such cases, a vast network of cells, tissues, and organs all begin to work together to recognize and respond to the emergency. In order for this large-scale response to be effective, the entire immune system must be made aware that the body is under attack. This is the job of special cell messenger protein called interleukin-2 (IL-2). IL-2 sounds the danger alarm and spreads the word quickly throughout the body. IL-2 is also important in the production of T-cells, a vital part of the body’s targeted response to specific threats.

With so many divisions of your immune “armed forces” at work, it’s essential to have smooth and efficient communication among them to avoid a delayed or sub-optimal response. That’s why lymphocytes are so vitally important. These special white blood cells circulate throughout the body, playing an important role in commanding, directing, and coordinating your immune system’s diverse and varied functions.

Your highly complex immune system can actually recognize and remember millions of different enemies, and it can produce potent biological weapons called antibodies to match up with and wipe out nearly all of them. One of the body’s most powerful antibodies is immunoglobulin G (IgG), which circulates in the blood, working covertly to seek out bacteria, viruses, molds, yeasts, and allergens. When IgG finds a foreign invader, it “paints” it with a special chemical to mark it for destruction by the immune system’s “clean-up squads.”

Here are 10 great tips that can help you to keep your vital immune system functioning smoothly:

  • Don’t smoke. In addition to what you already know about the hazards of tobacco smoking, it also wreaks havoc on virtually every aspect of immune function.
  • Avoid toxins. Reduce exposure by choosing organic produce, washing fruits and vegetables to remove pesticide residues, and by using household cleaners and personal care products that are made with less toxic materials.
  • Get adequate sleep. Poor sleep is associated with lower immune system function and reduced numbers of killer cells that fight germs.
  • Reduce stress. There is compelling scientific evidence that chronic stress causes a measurable decline in the immune system’s ability to fight disease.
  • Be optimistic. Studies show that pessimists, who tend to find fault with everything, don’t live as long as optimists, who have a more cheerful outlook. If you’re content with whom you are and with your life, you’ll also have less stress, and therefore fewer immune health consequences.
  • Exercise regularly. Studies show the dangers to immune health of a sedentary lifestyle. One study compared inactive people with those who walked briskly almost every day. Researchers found that those who didn’t walk took twice as many sick days in four months as those who walked.
  • Stay connected. Humans crave social contact, and studies have shown that the fewer human connections we have at home, at work, and in the community, the more likely we are to get sick, flood our brains with anxiety-causing chemicals, and die prematurely. One study found that people who are isolated may live only half as long as those who have a lot of human contact. Love appears to nourish the immune system, so spread the love!
  • Eat a sensible, healthy diet. Excess fat can suppress the immune system, and too much sugar can inhibit the action of phagocytes, the “Pac-Man”-like blood cells that gobble up viruses and bacteria.
  • Don’t overuse antibiotics, especially for viral infections (such as colds or flu) where they have no effect. Cutting down on unnecessary antibiotic use will help to prevent the spread of antibiotic-resistant bacteria.
  • Drink 4 ounces (120 ml) of GoChi every day!

GoChi – Human clinical study shows significant immune enhancements in just 30 days!

In a recent randomized, double-blind, and placebo-controlled human clinical trial, blood tests on participants drinking a daily serving of 4 ounces (120 ml) of GoChi showed significant improvements in three key markers of immune health in just 30 days. Compared to their blood levels at the beginning of the study, the test subjects experienced the following:

  • 27% increase in lymphocytes
  • 58% increase in interleukin-2 (IL-2)
  • 19% increase in immunoglobulin G

In yet another controlled human study that was featured in the peer-reviewed Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine (JACM), participants drinking a daily serving of just 4 ounces (120 ml) of GoChi reported experiencing significantly decreased feelings of stress and more positive feelings of contentment and happiness in as little as 14 days. The publication of this study by the independent experts of a peer-reviewed publication such as JACM represents a first for a functional juice beverage in the Direct Selling industry, and it demonstrates FreeLife’s ongoing commitment to supporting its claims with solid scientific research.

Drink GoChi. Your body’s armed forces will thank you!

Do not Distress Over Stress Take GoChi Goji Juice

Friday, June 27th, 2008

“Stress is life. Life is stress,” says Dr. Esther Sternberg, Director of the Integrative Neural Immune Program at the U.S. Government’s National Institute of Mental Health. You can’t avoid stress, but although you might think of it only in negative terms, a little bit of stress can actually add excitement to your life and it’s essential for keeping you motivated. Too much stress, however, leads to distress, and that, according to many health researchers, can have negative effects on your immune system. People in distress also tend to secrete an overabundance of the stress hormone cortisol, with numerous health consequences including heart disease, stroke, obesity, respiratory disease, chronic inflammation, sleep disturbances, migraine and tension headaches, and even accident proneness.

Distress can also affect your performance at work, at play, or at school. Dr. Elizabeth Droz, Director of Student Counseling at Binghamton University, lists some major causes of distress:

Change – Any change (either positive or negative) that requires adaptation to your daily routine can cause overproduction of the stress hormones that can lead to distress.

Attitudes – Negative, critical, fearful, and/or pessimistic attitudes about yourself or others can cause emotional distress. That can lead to “sickness behavior,” in which the sufferer loses interest in work, daily activities, and social interaction.

Poor Nutrition – An imbalanced diet causes physiological distress, reducing the body’s ability to maintain itself and to resist disease.

Lack of Physical Fitness – Exercise is more than just building muscle. It also tones the vital organs and promotes the flow of stress-fighting brain chemicals.

Other causes of distress include bad relationships, boredom, noise pollution, congested travel and living conditions, and economic pressures. All of these common conditions can wreak havoc on your health and well-being.

How can you help yourself to de-stress instead of distress? Here’s what the experts at the National Institutes of Health recommend:

  1. Identify the things in your life that cause you stress: relationship problems, conflict at work, a death or illness in the family. Once you know what’s stressing you out, you can begin to figure out ways to change your environment and manage your stressors.
  2. Take control of stressful situations. If there’s a problem that can be solved, it is better to solve it now than to let it become a chronic and distressing annoyance.
  3. Manage those chronic stressors that you can’t control. Support groups, relaxation, meditation, and exercise are all tools you can use to manage your stress. If nothing you do seems to work for you, seek a health professional who can help. Also seek professional help if you find that you worry excessively about the small things in life.
  4. Drink 4 ounces (120 ml) of GoChi every day!

GoChi™ – Less stress reported in human clinical study in just 14 days!
Since ancient times, the goji berry has been helping generations of Asian people to deal with the stresses of daily life. No goji product is more potent than FreeLife’s GoChi, and now, in a recent human clinical trial reported in the peer-reviewed Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine (JACM), participants drinking a daily serving of just 4 ounces (120 ml) of GoChi reported significant reduction in stress in as little as 14 days! The publication of our study by the independent experts of a peer-reviewed publication such as JACM represents a first for a functional juice beverage in the Direct Selling industry, and it demonstrates FreeLife’s ongoing commitment to supporting its claims with solid scientific research. Here’s to managing the stress in your life!Your FreeLife Science Team

Himalayan GoChi Juice Two New Studies on Immune System and Antioxidant Activity

Monday, April 14th, 2008

Himalayan GoChi Juice Two new studies were just released on Immune System and Antioxidant Activity:

Video Of These Two Exciting Studies – Click Here!

Immune system study –
How performed – Double Blind Randomized Placebo Controlled
Size of Study – 60 people in 30 days

GoChi Juice bottle in water

The results of this study showed Himalayan GoChi Juice strengthened the immune system in 3 very key areas.

First it increased lymphocytes by 27%, which is fantastic. Lymphocytes are a small white blood cell called a leukocyte that plays a large role in defending the health of the body.
Lymphocytes are responsible for immune responses. There are two main types of lymphocytes – B cells and T cells.

Second it increased Interlukin2 (IL2) by a whopping 58%. Interlukin2 is a cell messenger and instrumental in the body’s natural response to microbial infection and in discriminating between foreign elements and the body itself.

Third it increased ImmunoglobinG (IgG) by a very significant 19%. ImmunoglobinG looks for foreign substances like yeast, molds, bacteria, and marks them for destruction by the immune system.

Antioxidant Study-

How performed – Double Blind Randomized Placebo Controlled
Size of Study – It was conducted with 50 healthy adults age 55-72 years old over 30 days.

It looked at the Himalayan GoChi Juice effect on antioxidants within the body.
This is quite different than simply measuring ORAC scores which just test an antioxidants potential to neutralize free radicals in a test tube, which is often a far cry from how it works in the body. For example most fruit antioxidants are typically not easily absorbed in the body. This study actually looked at the the bodies own natural antioxidants SuperOxide Dismutase (SOD) and Glutathione Peroxidase (GSH-PX).

SuperOxide Dismutase (SOD) – is a potent anti-inflammatory antioxidant found in the body. The GoChi group showed a 8.39% increase in SOD

Glutathione Peroxidase (GSH-PX) is the general name of an enzyme family with peroxidase activity whose main biological role is to protect the organism from oxidative damage. This is the active form of Glutathione. The GoChi group showed a 9.87% increase in GSH-PX.

Also one of the most toxic free radicals in the body is malondialdehyde (MDA). The results of the GoChi Juice study showed the GoChi Juice group had a significant 8.66% decrease in MDA.
