Camu-Camu is one of the most important nutritional supplements that you can take.
Other names for Camu-camu are rumberry, guavaberry, mirto, murta, guayabillo, coco-carette, merisier-cerise, bois de basse batard, cabo de chivo, escobillo, mije, mije colorado, and mijo.

Camu camu provides nutritional support for a healthy immune system, and support for the brain, lymph glands, heart and lungs. It is also an excellent antioxidant and has anti-inflammatory properties.

Camu Camu has an extraordinarily high Vitamin C content. In fact it has the highest concentration of Vitamin C among all fruits on earth. The Camu-Camu fruit provides about 30- 50 times more Vitamin C than an orange. The vitamin C from Camu camu helps protect the fat-soluble vitamins A and E as well as fatty acids from oxidation. Camu Camu vitamin “C” as found in nature consists of enzymes, bioflavonoids and many other components that together are referred to as the P factor. These P factors benefit the body in numerous other ways besides antioxidant activity. The P factors strengthen the vascular system.

Plus camu camu contains natural beta-carotene, calcium, iron, niacin, phosphorus, protein, riboflavin, thiamin and the amino acids valine, leucine and serine.

Camu camu is also rich in very valuable nutritional flavonoids and phytochemical compounds which have demonstrated health benefits.

Cranberries, Cranberry 1 Super Fruit of 21 Super Foods in Jiaogulan Tonic

Wednesday, December 23rd, 2009

In today’s venture at looking at each of the 21 super fruits – foods in the Freelife Jule of the Orient Jiaogulan tonic we take a look at cranberries. We normally think of Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners when we think of cranberries. More than just something to serve at Thanksgiving cranberries, are a nutritional powerhouse as we shall see. Just one more nutrient that shows why Jule of the Orient truly is such an outstanding product.

Ask anyone you can think of what is the most popular berry juice for health? You’re likely to be told that cranberry juice is the answer.

The cranberry (Vaccinium macrocarpon L.) is a cousin of the blueberry and huckleberry and bilberry. Cranberries are a major commercial crop in certain Northern American states and Canadian provinces in a swampy bog environment.
Native peoples used cranberries as food, in ceremonies and medicinally. Revolutionary War veteran Henry Hall planted the first commercial cranberry beds in Massachusetts way back in 1816.
The majority of cranberries are harvested between September and October.

There has been a rapidly growing recognition of cranberries for their consumer product popularity, nutrient content and antioxidant qualities, giving them commercial status as a “superfruit”. But, by far the cranberry’s most popular application is its juice.

Cranberry’s benefits come in a variety of forms.

Cranberries contain bacteria-blocking compounds that are believed to be helpful in preventing urinary tract infections, and scientists now think this same function may be useful in blocking the bacteria responsible for ulcers and certain oral bacteria that can lead to gum problems.

There is no doubt cranberries are a healthy fruit. They contain no cholesterol and virtually no fat and are low in sodium. Various cranberry products may contain substantial levels of dietary fiber and certain vitamins, as well as a variety of phytochemicals that may be beneficial to health. Scientists believe that it is the combined actions of many different phytochemicals that contribute to the overall healthy effects, and cranberries are rich in these compounds.

Cranberries are a source of vitamin C, Vitamin A, Vitamin B1 Thiamine, Vitamin B2 Riboflavin, Vitamin B2 Complex Niacin, dietary fiber and the essential dietary mineral, manganese, as well as a balanced profile of other essential micronutrients such as: Calcium, Magnesium, Manganese, Phosphorus, Potassium, Vitamin A,Vitamin K, Beta-Carotene, Lutein and zeaxanthin.

Cranberries are a source of polyphenol antioxidants, which provide benefits to the cardiovascular and immune system.

Cherry Cherries one of 21 SuperFoods in Freelife Jiaogulan Tonic

Sunday, December 20th, 2009

As I look at each of the 21 super fruits – nutrients in the Freelife Jule of the Orient Jiaogulan tonic, I’m amazed at the interest in natural fruits and nutrition on various blogs and websites. Here we’re going to take a look at the cherry. The more I looked into the cherry the more I’ve become impressed with its nutritional value. I continue to find what I am discovering about each of the nutrients more and more fascinating. This Jule of the Orient truly is quite an outstanding product.
cherries cherry
Everyone’s familiar with the cherry but did you know that the cherry was very high in antioxidants. Tart cherries, (as either dried, frozen, or cherry juice), have among the highest levels of very valuable antioxidants, as compared to other fruits. Cherries also contain important nutrients such as vitamin C, potassium, magnesium, iron, fiber and folate. Cherries are contain 19 times more beta carotene than blueberries or strawberries.

Cherries have a very high ORAC antioxidant score – here are some of the ORAC score levels for a serving of various types of cherries:

* Cherry Juice Concentrate: 12,800 ORAC units
* Dried Cherries: 6,800 ORAC units
* Frozen Cherries: 2,033 ORAC units
* Canned Cherries: 1,700 ORAC units

Cherries derive their much of their antioxidant power from the powerful anthocyanins contained in cherries. These anthocyanins provide the distinctive red color and may hold the key to the cheery’s many health benefits. The rich, red pigments that give cherries their color are a type of phytonutrient known as flavonoids, which have been linked to a variety of health benefits.

Scientific studies have shown that anthocyanins in cherries help the body to respond to inflammation by blocking the actions of cycloxygenase-1 and 2 enzymes.

Tart cherries especially, are exceptionally rich in many health promoting flavonoid poly phenolic anti-oxidants such as lutein, zeaxanthin and beta carotene. These antioxidant nutrients act as protective scavengers against harmful free radicals that play a role in aging.

Here is something I found surprising to learn. Cherries contain melatonin and are one of the very few foods that contain it. Melatonin is a potent antioxidant produced naturally by the body’s pineal gland that helps regulate biorhythm and natural sleep patterns. Eating cherries can help you get to sleep faster and also ease jet lag.

A University of Michigan study shows a cherry-enriched diet may help lower body fat (especially belly fat), reduce weight, and support heart health.

Cherries have also been shown to provide excellent joint health support.

Spice Extracts Resveratrol Ginger Adaptogenic Herbs Probiotics Ginseng

Saturday, April 4th, 2009

Part 2 of looking for the very best in a daily Multi-Vitamin Supplement. Here is part two of a list of ingredients contained with the Daily Edge Multi-Vitamin Anti-aging Supplement.

Trans-Resveratrol is one of the most exciting and most-researched of the new waves of phytonutrients. Found in red wine grapes, it is said to be responsible for the phenomenon known as the “French Paradox.”
That’s the term that’s used to describe the puzzling observation that, although the French people exercise little, smoke cigarettes, and eat fatty foods, their incidence of obesity, high blood pressure, and heart disease are among the lowest in the world. It has been said that this is because of their consumption of red wine, and the protection that it gives them. And that’s thanks to trans-Resveratrol. Although it’s only found in tiny amounts in red wine, it is so powerful as an anti-aging nutrient that, in laboratory tests, it has successfully increased the healthy lifespan – the health-span – of cells by as much as 50%.

Standardized spice extracts are another new addition to anti-aging nutritional supplements. In the days before refrigeration, smart cooks noted that spicy dishes kept their freshness longer than bland ones. Scientists now know that certain spices contain powerful joint-protective antioxidants and metabolic enhancers, and they can even help to maintain gastrointestinal health by guarding against potentially dangerous colonic yeast growth. A truly comprehensive daily supplement will feature powerful extracts of ginger, rosemary, oregano, cinnamon, and turmeric. You should be able to smell them when you open the bottle!

Adaptogenic herbs are a mainstay of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), where they are used to help the body adapt to everyday stress. In TCM, the most famous adaptogen of all is the goji berry, which is often taken together with astragalus root and shiitake mushroom for their immune-enhancing qualities, panax ginseng for its balancing and restorative properties, reishi mushroom to support proper circulation, and schizandra berry to enhance vitality. These ancient herbs are now scientifically-supported in dozens of research studies.

Probiotics are friendly bacteria that are essential for colon and digestive health. There are many probiotic supplements available, but many require refrigeration. Look for supplements made with Lactospore, a patented and highly active probiotic that has clinically proven efficacy and great room temperature stability.

It also contains the exclusive ingredient GoZanthene which is a special mixture of goji berry fruit and marigold flower extract standardized to provide 1500 mcg of zeaxanthin, lutein and lycopene. These special nutrients are especially valuable to the eyes.

These are just some of the noteworthy nutrients that you’ll find in the most advanced daily supplements, and we’re certain that we’ll be reporting on many more breakthroughs in the years to come. We’ll keep our eyes focused on the cutting edge of nutrition science, so you can keep your edge in the war against aging!

Resveratrol Pomegranate Glutathione Alpha Lipoic Acid Green Tea in Multi-Vitamin

Saturday, March 28th, 2009

Do you want the very best in a daily Multi-Vitamin Supplement. Here is part one of a list of ingredients contained with the Daily Edge Multi-Vitamin Anti-aging Supplement.

Scientific studies are now confirming the anti-aging properties of whole food-derived phytonutrients, and the good news is that they are also now available in the very best daily multi-nutrient supplements. A world-class daily multi will also provide its vitamins and minerals in the most effective, natural forms.

Here are some of the exciting, scientifically recommended nutrients that you should be looking for in your daily anti-aging multivitamin:

Vitamin A should be from beta carotene and natural mixed carotenoids, just like in foods. The cheap synthetic vitamin A used in many supplements can cause problems during pregnancy.

Vitamin C (also called ascorbic acid) is never found alone in Nature. In citrus fruits, it’s always accompanied by isoascorbic acid and glycosyl flavones, which help to boost its antioxidant power.

Vitamin E is usually found in its low-priced synthetic dl-alpha form, but good supplements provide a more effective natural form of this vitamin (d-alpha), and the very best supplements feature all eight natural variants of vitamin e, just as they are found in whole grains.

Glutathione co-factors are a group of natural and food-derived nutrients designed to increase levels of glutathione, a sulfur-bearing amino acid complex that is perhaps the body’s most powerful detoxifying agent. Supplementing with glutathione itself has been shown to be of no benefit, but you can provide your body with glutathione building blocks by supplementing your diet with selenium, alpha-lipoic acid, n-acetylcysteine, l-glutamine, and organic sulfur from MSM and from the thiols found in garlic and broccoli sprouts.

Polyphenols are the health protective compounds found in today’s most newsworthy and most-studied healthy anti-aging foods. The most well-studied polyphenols include:

Green tea extract: dozens of studies have shown a wide-range of benefits for green tea’s catechin polyphenols, especially in protecting against harmful changes in healthy cells.

Cocoa flavonol extract: studies at Harvard and leading research centers are showing that cocoa’s flavanol polyphenols can benefit heart, brain, and vascular health. And you thought it was just for Valentine’s Day!

Pomegranate fruit extract: pomegranate’s healthful ellagitannin polyphenols help to keep bad LDL cholesterol from oxidizing.

Turn On Your Bodys Antioxidant Power! Goji GoChi Juice

Thursday, July 3rd, 2008

Everyone’s talking about the age-defying benefits of antioxidants, but do you know what antioxidants are-and how they actually work?

The U.S. Government’s Medline Plus database defines antioxidants as substances that help to protect your cells against the effects of free radicals. Free radicals are molecules produced when your body breaks down food or by environmental sources such as tobacco smoke, radiation, and automobile exhaust. You even produce harmful free radicals when you exercise! Left unchecked, free radicals can damage or kill cells. They play a role in heart disease, cancer, and other diseases, and they can also contribute to the premature aging of your body and mind.

Fortunately, antioxidants can come to the rescue! The antioxidant process in your body is similar to stopping an apple from browning. Once you cut an apple, it begins to brown, but you can prevent discoloration by dipping each slice in lemon juice, which contains the antioxidant vitamin C.

Antioxidants are divided into two classes: the dietary antioxidants that you get from food, and the endogenous antioxidants that are made by the body. In addition to vitamin C, dietary antioxidants also include beta-carotene, vitamin E, selenium, and polyphenols such as anthocyanins, flavonoids, and xanthones. Polyphenols are found in some fruits and juices, and even though they may look impressive in antioxidant tests such as ORAC, those tests only measure antioxidant potential in a test tube. The truth is that most antioxidants in fruits and juices do not perform well in the human body because they are poorly absorbed and therefore remain trapped in the digestive tract, and this has been shown in important scientific studies. We believe that it is far more meaningful to human health to maintain high serum levels of the body’s own endogenous antioxidants, namely superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxidase. These vital antioxidant enzymes circulate in the blood throughout the entire body to neutralize all types of free radicals before they can do harm.

Here are some tips for increasing your body’s antioxidant power to help prevent premature aging:

  1. “Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants.” These words of wisdom are from Michael Pollan’s remarkable new book, In Defense of Food. His directives are simple, sensible, and to the point:
    • Eat food” – Eat a wide variety of the kinds of natural and healthy foods that your grandparents ate, not today’s unhealthy processed or “engineered” foods that are loaded with salt, fat, or high-fructose corn syrup. The digestion and metabolism of processed foods can deplete your body’s vital endogenous antioxidants.
    • “Not too much” – The more calories you consume, the more free radicals you generate. Animal studies have shown that those that eat less live longer, healthier lives.
    • “Mostly plants” – Plant-based foods are healthier and put far less oxidative stress on the body. Fruits, vegetables, whole grains, seeds, and nuts also contain beneficial phytonutrients that can contribute to health and well-being.
  2. Drink 4 ounces (120 ml) of GoChi every day!

GoChi – Human clinical study shows increased antioxidant power and reduced free-radical damage in just 30 days!
In a recent randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study, blood tests on participants drinking GoChi showed highly significant improvements in serum levels of the important endogenous antioxidant enzymes superoxide dismutase and glutathione peroxidase. This was accompanied by a corresponding reduction in blood levels of malondialdehyde (MDA), a prime indicator of free-radical damage and a known health risk factor. This antioxidant study is yet another demonstration of the remarkable power of GoChi, and it illustrates FreeLife’s ongoing commitment to lead the nutrition industry in clinical research, product efficacy, and evidence-based product formulation. So raise your glass, and you’ll soon be well on your way to raising your antioxidant power. Cheers! Your FreeLife Science Team
